Bone surgery before dentures
A short procedure to reduce prominent bone so a denture can fit comfortably.
Some patients who need dentures first need minor bone surgery to reduce prominent areas of bone. These are often in the floor of the mouth below the tongue, or near the cheeks. Prominent areas of bone are called exostoses and can get in the way of a well-fitting denture.
We can perform a short procedure to reduce these areas so that a denture can be fitted comfortably.
What to expect
- An assessment, often with X-rays, and a discussion with your dentist about the denture plan.
- A short procedure in our rooms, usually under local anaesthetic.
- Some tenderness for a few days, and advice on care while the area heals before your denture is made or adjusted.
As with any procedure there are some risks, which we'll explain before treatment.
